In May, Anthony Doerr visited Reader's Corner to talk about his new novel, "All the Light We Cannot See." Ten years in the writing, the book tells the stories of a blind French girl and a German boy during World War II and how their lives eventually intertwine.
Doerr has since embarked on a national book tour, and "All the Light We Cannot See" has received stellar reviews in the Washington Post, The New York Times, The Guardian, the Boston Globe and many other publications.
This is the second half of our interview with Doerr. Tony and I spoke about writing, the writing life, and what’s involved in publishing and promoting a major new work. You can find the first part of the interview here. In it we discussed Tony’s new book, including his fascination with radio and why he decided to write a novel set during World War II.
Anthony Doerr is the recipient of many awards, including four O. Henry Prizes, three Pushcart Prizes, the Rome Prize, a Guggenheim fellowship and the National Magazine award. His other books include The Shell Collector, About Grace, Four Seasons in Rome, and Memory Wall. Tony has taught in Boise State’s MFA Program in Creative Writing, and was Idaho’s writer in residence from 2007 to 2010.
