State Of The Station: Boise State Public Radio In 2018

Boise State Public Radio

Each year, around the time of the Idaho Governor's "State of the State" address, the radio station provides its own version of a preview of the year ahead, for public radio. Unlike the formal speech by Idaho's chief executive, this is simply a casual conversation with the general manager of Boise State Public Radio about plans for its Idaho network.

Local Morning Edition anchor Matt Guilhem asked station manager Tom Michael to outline the main initiatives, which include further infrastructure improvements, more community engagement and an expansion of the community advisory board.

The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust is working with the station to help fund technology improvements across its 18 transmitters and translators, by matching dollar-for-dollar, a quarter-million dollar investment over the next several years. Outreach into the community include the arrival of Wanna Know Idaho, the launch of an Idaho-specific daily program and the return of community conversations, as well as new directions within the development department.

The pair also spoke about the new Boise State Public Radio podcast called Legislative Breakdown, covering the issues of the 2018 Idaho Lege; the creation of a "Mountain West" regional news bureau, covering issues of interest to the region; and the expansion of the Community Advisory Board
