BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho lawmakers are gearing up for the debate over gun legislation and school security.

This week, House Speaker Scott Bedke informally assigned Republican Rep. Judy Boyle of Midvale to be the point person on all legislation related to firearms and school security emerging from the chamber.

The Idaho Statesman reports Republican Sen. Marv Hagedorn of Eagle is leading a similar effort in the Senate.

Boyle is a former volunteer lobbyist for the National Rifle Association and she helped in the passage of Idaho's conceal-carry law in 1990. She says her constituents back home are anxious and eager for Idaho lawmakers to act in the wake of new gun restrictions proposed by President Obama.

Hagedorn says he's shaping legislation around two themes — school safety and protecting gun rights.
