The importance of polio vaccines and combatting vaccine hesitancy

In the 1950s Dr. Jonas Salk created the first successful vaccine against polio, a life-threatening disease which can infect the spinal cord. Polio was eliminated from the U.S. in 1979, but there have been a handful of cases in the country since then.
