If you’re waiting for Episode Five of the popular “Serial” podcast to drop today, you’ll have to keep waiting.
The spin-off podcast from public radio’s “This American Life” has announced it will release the rest of its Season Two episodes on a bi-weekly basis. This is a departure from its original “one story told week-by-week” tagline.
Serial’s Season Two is focusing on the case of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, a story that is still developing.
On Wednesday, the podcast staff cited new information as the reason for its schedule change.
In a post on their website, Serial producers said, “This story goes in so many directions, and as we’re reporting it we’re getting access to more of the key people close to Bergdahl’s case, and to more information than we initially thought we would.”The New York Times reports executive producer Julie Snyder says that since the series began its second season in December, more people involved with the story have become willing to talk. Snyder referred to this as "narrative developments" rather than "news developments."
Despite the change in schedule, Serial will still be released serially, that is, episodes in succession. Episode Five is now slated to drop on Thursday, Jan. 21. The staff says they will keep website content and graphics fresh in between episodes.
If a week between each Serial episode is not what you wanted to hear, we might have a way to get you through the withdrawal. On Serial’s “off” weeks, our co-hosted Speaking of Serial podcast between KBSX and the Idaho Statesman will post our new episodes. This way, you’ll be able to get some dose of Serial each week. In fact, we just dropped Speaking of Serial’s Episode Four.
