Ross Partridge says above all else, aspiring filmmakers need to be extremely passionate about what they’re doing. Partridge is an actor, director and writer in Hollywood – and is hosting a screenwriters workshop at Boise State University Friday. He says one also has to be able to shut out the naysayers, and trust your instincts when it comes to storytelling.
Partridge follows his own advice in his latest feature film. The indie movie is called “Lamb,” and it portrays a lonely middle-aged man who meets a young girl who's also alone – and the unusual relationship they create. Partridge says working in the indie world allows him to tell stories about the nuance of human emotions – emotions that are sometimes difficult to express on the big screen.
He says a good storyteller can do that work from anywhere – including a place like Boise.
“At the end of the day, it’s about storytelling," says Partridge. "And that really should not be inhibited by your resources. I think you have to adapt your ideas and storytelling to that, but you don’t need a lot of money to strike it big and resonate with audiences.”
The free workshop will be held at Boise State's Micron Business and Economics Building from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, and is part of a collaboration between the university and the Sun Valley Film Festival.
