Boise's Treefort Books Bands With A Focus On Audience Experience

YACHT performed during the 2015 festival, and will be back this March.

More than 440 bands will play this year’s Treefort Music Fest. Despite that huge number – which will be the most so far in the event’s five-year existence – festival director Eric Gilbert says the tough part of booking those artists was having to say “no” to many others.

Bands in the latest announcement include the French-based duo CocoRosie, and Treefort veterans YACHT. If you haven’t heard of either of those groups – you probably aren’t alone. Gilbert says the festival puts more of a focus on bands that can give live audiences a memorable experience over booking the most well-known headliners on tour each year.

“It’s hard to really tell what a band – how that performance is going to be," says Gilbert. "But I think in general, bands that are hungrier for that opportunity are just going to take it to another level.”

Gilbert says one of the new things this year is a focus on Latin and folk music, which will happen at Boise’s Basque Center. He says expanding in communities like this will get more people interested in Treefort – beyond the event's core base of fans.

The festival is set for March 23-27, and ticket prices will increase to $179 on March 1.

Check out bands CocoRosie and YACHT, two of 400+ bands that will play Treefort this year.
