Sun Valley has added another nonstop flight to its roster, this time to Chicago. But so far, planes will only connect to O’Hare International airport during the winter months.

The new United Airlines nonstop flight will begin right before Christmas this year. But it will only operate on Saturdays, and will skip six weeks in January and February. The plane will be a 76-passenger regional jet, and will cater to skiers headed to the Sun Valley Resort.

This is the fourth nonstop destination added in three years at Friedman Memorial Airport. The Fly Sun Valley Alliance – a nonprofit directed by local business leaders and elected officials – helped secure the Chicago flight. Other cities that fly nonstop to the resort town include San Francisco, Denver and Los Angeles.

In a press release, the alliance says the Chicago connection will make the town more competitive with other western ski areas.
