Several tall residential buildings are planned for downtown Boise as living space in the city’s core is at a premium. The growth is expanding beyond downtown to a long neglected site on the bench.
There’s an odd triangular lot on the Boise bench, just behind the Vista Village shopping center along Kootenai Street. For over half a century, the property was owned by the Day family. Robert Day was the mayor of Boise in the early 60s and the family built the Vista Village in 1949.
The triangular parcel, which is less than an acre in size, is wedged between an unused rail spur and the street. The Idaho Business Review reports up to 17 townhomes could be wedged on the lot in what’s being called the Marietta Subdivision.
Developer CK Property Group says it was drawn to the wedge-shaped property due to its proximity to downtown and Boise State. The prospective townhomes might be the first development to ever happen on the sliver of open space.
The Marietta Subdivision plans to spread the seventeen units across six separate buildings on the site. They’ll range in size from 1,800 to 2,000 square feet and offer views of the downtown skyline, Table Rock and the foothills.
A planning firm working on the project says it hopes to start construction on the townhouses in the spring.
