May is National Pet Month, and to highlight it we’re looking at an organization that works to promote something called “humane education.” The nonprofit Helping Idaho Dogs looks to boost the number of registered therapy dog teams in the Gem State and spreads the benefits of being with an animal.

The organization’s mission is “to improve safety around dogs through education, and to promote a stronger relationship between pet owners, families and their dogs.” Founded in 2009, Helping Idaho Dogs has grown to include numerous teams of therapy dogs that visit schools, hospitals and libraries. Volunteer and educator Elena Tomorowitz dropped by the Boise State Public Radio studios to talk more about the organization and pet safety.
