Pine Creek Fire Near Boise Grows To 800 Acres

Update 8:20 a.m.:  Fire managers said Tuesday morning the Pine Creek Fire has now burned 800 acres northeast of Boise.  200 people are working the fire, which officials say has a "high" growth potential.  With lightning in the forecast, firefighters are bracing for more new fires in the region.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Update 4:55 a.m.:  Fire officials say the Pine Creek Fire has burned more than 500 acres.  Approximately 120 people worked the fire Monday, along with helicopters, heavy air tankers and single engine planes.  150 more firefighters will join the effort Tuesday.  So far, officials say no homes are threatened. The fire started around 3:00 Monday afternoon.

ORIGINAL POST: Smoke rising above the Boise Foothills is coming from a 50 acre wildfire in the Boise National Forest. The Pine Creek Fire is burning about 15 miles northeast of Boise. At this time, no homes or other structures are in danger.

According to a spokesman for the Boise National Forest, the fire near Grimes Creek is being fought with two hand crews, three helicopters and five engine crews.
