Wildfires continued burning across southern and central Idaho over the weekend, with several new fires also igniting.
The Ridge Fire north of Lowman in the Boise National Forest has now burned about 3,000 acres. Officials say it's 7 percent contained. Despite predictions Friday of significant growth, the fire did not grow Sunday.
The Pine Creek Fire between Boise and Idaho City is now 80 percent contained. It's burned about 2,800 acres. More than 450 people have been assigned to fight that fire.
A DC-10 jet fire retardant bomber flew into Idaho as part of an aggressive early attack on a pair of central Idaho wildfires that forced evacuations at two campgrounds and a Boy Scout camp. Officials say the jumbo tanker flew in from southern California Saturday afternoon and made effective drops on the now 60-acre Bradley Fire and the 650-acre Lodgepole Fire.
The Papoose Fire burning west of Salmon along the Middle Fork of the Salmon River is now entering its third week. It started July 8 and has burned around 6,500 acres. A spokesperson for fire managers announced several trail closures related to the fire over the weekend.
Among the new fires burning in Idaho right now is a 7,000 acre fire northeast of Shoshone. The Brown Butte fire started over the weekend and grew quickly. But a BLM spokeswoman says fire managers think they'll have it contained by Tuesday evening.
