Mandatory Evacuations Underway For Town Of Prairie North Of Mountain Home

Google Maps

The Elmore County Sheriff's Office is going door-to-door this afternoon evacuating people from the small towns of Prairie and the area of Fall Creek north of Mountain Home.

A spokesperson from the Bureau of Land Management says the mandatory evacuations were issued after a group of fires known as the Elk Complex moved into the area. People are being evacuated to the Elks Lodge in Mountain Home.

"The fires are in the Mountain Home area, stretching to the southwestern end of Anderson Ranch Reservoir...125 firefighters are assigned to the fires, and six aircraft are dropping retardant. The fires have destroyed 10 outbuildings and cabins and forced the closure of Highway 20 between Mountain Home and the Camas County line." -- Associated Press

Eleven fires were sparked by lighting on BLM land Thursday night. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for much of the area including sections of the Sawtooth National Forest and the Boise National Forest.

Lightning along with dry conditions makes for perfect wildfire conditions. The red flag warning goes into effect at midnight tonight and will last through midnight Sunday morning.
