The Beaver Creek Fire burned more than 174 square miles and endangered the towns of Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley last month. The once-enormous blaze is fully contained.
But residents in the area now have to be on alert for another danger: flash floods and mudslides over the charred land. The Times-News reports that 18 inches of mud came into the Croy Creek Canyon area overnight.
Places beyond public access in the Deer Creek area were also affected. Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey says no homes are under immediate danger, but one driver did get stuck in mud this morning.
Blaine County Disaster Services Coordinator Chuck Turner says it's been a busy day. He says parts of the county is now under a flash flood warning, and will be until 5:45 p.m. Turner says the response by road cleanup crews was fast and efficient, but he says people should continue to be cautious as the rain stays in the area.
