Officials from Ketchum and Sun Valley are again weighing a possible consolidation of their fire departments. During a listening session last week, the Sun Valley Director of Public Safety presented a report outlining the pros and cons of combining the resources.

According to the Idaho Mountain Express, the discussion comes during a period of newfound cooperation between the two city governments.

The idea of merging the departments was discussed 11 years ago, when outside consultants prepared a 300-page report. Today officials are looking at cost savings that could come from consolidation.

The Mountain Express reports the next step would likely be a study that looks further into the details of combining the fire departments. But there’s no specific timeline for that.
