Idaho's top elected officials have paid their respects to Pete Cenarrusa, a sheep rancher and popular politician, who died Sunday at age 95.
Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, first lady Lori Otter and others like Lt. Gov. Brad Little and Secretary of State Ben Ysursa gathered at the Capitol Thursday for a brief ceremony honoring Cenarrusa.
The Otters placed a wreath at the side of Cenarrusa's closed casket, which will remain in the Capitol rotunda Thursday for public viewing.
Cenarrusa is the longest serving elected official in state history and served nearly 36 years alone as Idaho Secretary of State. He also served nine terms in the Idaho House.
A funeral mass will be held Friday at St. John's Cathedral in Boise, then Cenarrusa will be buried Saturday at Bellevue Cemetery.
