Despite having a record season, Boise State's women's basketball team lost in their first round match of the NCAA tournament. After a winning streak of ten victories in a row to clinch the Mountain West Championship, the Lady Broncos seemed like a bracket no brainer.
The team’s magic ran out in Southern California over the weekend when the Broncos lost to UCLA; the final score was 83 to 56.
According to the Statesman, the women's basketball team set a record last season with 25 wins. Another milestone was reached over the weekend with three members of the Broncos now having competed in two NCAA tournaments. The last time the team made it to March Madness was 2015.
For the majority of Saturday's game at Pauley Pavilion, the Bruins held a double-digit lead over Boise State. The Broncos made 30 percent of their shots from the field, while UCLA hit the mark 58 percent of the time.
Broncos' head coach Gordy Presnell said he couldn't be prouder of his team or their season. He thinks they reached their potential and said this past season was one of the most fun in his 30-year career. He credits the good time to the leadership abilities of team members and the group's cohesion.
