Organizers of Idaho Gives say the day-long event to raise money for Idaho nonprofits was a success. With donations topping $1.3 million, organizers beat their goal.
Around 10,200 people donated to over 600 organizations as part of Idaho Gives. The annual day-long charity event is organized by the Idaho Nonprofit Center. As the Statesman reports, the organization that received the most donations from Idahoans reflects the political moment. Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaii raised nearly $39,000 spread over roughly 500 donations.
Other big winners were animal-related charities. The World Center for Birds of Prey Peregrine Fund came in a close second raising $38,000, and the Idaho Humane Society came in third. The Humane Society received more individual contributions than any other of the charities participating in yesterday’s event.
Friends of Zoo Boise came in sixth place for donations. The zoo’s mission was to raise money to help fund bringing a new, two-year-old giraffe to Idaho from a zoo in Milwaukee.
The event switched to a different online giving platform this year, GiveGab, which expedited the time between people donating and organizations receiving money. Participating groups will see the funds in their accounts within three business days. Last year, the nonprofits had to wait six to eight weeks before receiving the contributions.
