The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance is holding a large rally this weekend in downtown Boise. The firearms group is looking to hold one of the biggest gatherings in support of gun rights in state history.
Saturday’s rally in the capital will follow a gala dinner in Nampa the night before. Erich Pratt, the executive director for Gun Owners of America, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the ticketed event.
Nearly 2,000 people have indicated they plan to attend the Idaho Rally for the 2nd Amendment on a Facebook page for the event. Some 6,500 say they’re interested.
The rally starts at 1 p.m. at Fort Boise Park where attendees will congregate before marching to the Idaho Capitol.
Greg Pruett, the president of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, says the gun rights rally the group put on in 2016 was the largest of its kind in the state’s history. In a video posted on the event’s webpage, Pruett says there’s a central strategy behind this year’s march.
“The goal is to have everybody come to Boise,” says Pruett. “We don’t want 5,000 people all across the state—all over the state rallying. We want everybody in the state to come to Boise.”
Scheduled speakers for the downtown rally include Gun Owners of America chief Pratt and Ammon Bundy, one of the leaders of the 2016 armed takeover of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
