Here’s An Update On This Week’s I-84 Overnight Closures

Ada County Highway District

For most nights this week, the Idaho Transportation Department plans to close sections of I-84 in Boise. They plan to continue work on the new Cloverdale overpass bridge project that began in January. The bridge needs to be rebuilt after it was destroyed by a fire after a fatal crash involving a semi truck and several vehicles last summer.

Weather permitting, workers will start putting in girders, which are the horizontal support structures that the road will stand on.

Jake Melder is with the ITD. He says they will close the roads in order to protect people's safety.

Monday and Tuesday night, all eastbound lanes will be closed from the Eagle Road interchange to the Cole and Overland interchange. Two westbound lanes will also be closed. On Wednesday and Thursday night, all westbound lanes will be closed between the two interchanges and two eastbound lanes will be closed.

Melder says there will be detours on local roads that run parallel to the interstate, and that they schedule the closures during times there is the least amount of traffic.

"It may take you a few minutes longer than typical if you’re using the interstate, but we anticipate that your travel time shouldn’t be unduly impeded," he says.

This week’s closures are anticipated to be the final ones for the remainder of the project. When it’s done, the bridge will be widened to four travel lanes, along with bike lanes and sidewalks.
