Boise's 11th Street Bikeway Looking To Get Underway

The project proposed by the Ada County Highway District, or ACHD, would connect two popular Boise landmarks — Camel’s Back Park and the Greenbelt. The bikeway would run between Heron Street and State Street.

Brooke Green, a planner with ACHD and also a state representative, says the goal of the project comes down to greater safety for bikers when travelling on these roads and creating easier cross-town access.

“For people to navigate and be in a comfortable environment which they can ride their bike and feel safe," says Green.

She says the bikeway will have to overcome obstacles in high traffic areas—like the Boise High School quad, where students hang out between classes.

“It’s started to become a hazard to have cyclists navigate through the campus while at the same time students are out — they're actually enjoying that space," Green says.

Public meetings will be held this Thursday about the proposed bikeway design. The first meeting will be held at Camel's Back Park at 3:30 p.m. and the second at the corner of Washington & 11th at 5:30 p.m. More information can be found here.
