Demand for improvements and expansions to the Treasure Valley’s transportation system have been growing as the population continues to climb. Although the Treasure Valley bus system has seen growth over the past few years, residents are still looking for improvements.
Katie Milliken lives in Boise and doesn’t have a car. When we talked to her this summer, she said the bus system was lacking.
"It is challenging to have a job," says Miliken. "My boss here at the flower shop is so helpful, she knows that I’m working around the bus schedule.”
Boise City Council voted to approve a new long-term financial deal with Valley Regional Transit this July. Through the deal, VRT will get an extra $1.8 million to fund service, maintenance and capital improvements starting in 2020.
The additions include more frequent service on State Street, an extension into Eagle for peak hours during the week and an evening route on the 2 Broadway until 9 p.m. There will also be increased Saturday service for some of the routes. These additions will start this spring.
