Following two court rulings, the Pentagon confirmed it will allow openly transgender individuals to enlist in the military beginning Jan. 1.
The Department of Defense said it will reluctantly comply with the ruling, though it quickly appealed the decision.
In July, President Donald Trump said he would discharge all transgender military members because he says their medical costs would overburden the Pentagon's budget, as well as cause "disruption."
Gemma Gaudette spoke with Leo Morales, executive director of ACLU Idaho to get a better understanding of what this ruling means.
