Yeah we know, 13 may seem like a pretty random number, but might as well choose a traditionally lucky number out of the dizzying 430 bands scheduled to play the fourth-annual Treefort Music Fest in Boise Wednesday through Sunday.
Clearly, the indie music fest has really owned the "go big or go home" ideal this year.
Given that nearly incomprehensible number of bands – and the fact that human cloning is not yet commercially available – here's a schedule-conscious mix of music to keep you from feeling like you're constantly missing out on something.
We listed these 13 acts in the order they'll be performing. Check out the full schedule here.
1. Hurray For The Riff Raff: New Orleans Americana meets gothic architecture and stained glass: Yowza. This show is sure to be solid with the folky-vocals of Alynda Lee Segarra, and the venue (a new addition to the Treefort roster) will create quite a memorable Treefort experience. 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Rockies.
2. Geographer: This San Francisco band released their third album on Monday. The group is known for its melodic textured sound, and will be showing off their new songs on 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Neurolux. Read up on how lead singer Michael Denicame across his first synth – it gives scavengers everywhere a good name.
3. Logan Hyde: The Boise musician used to play guitar with Youth Lagoon. Last summer, he recorded his debut solo album – called Innocence –in a Garden City warehouse. Logan will premiere songs from Thursday 6 p.m. at the El Korah Shrine. Read a review of his track "Bloated" here.
4. Happyness: NPR Music's Bob Boilen has raved about this British rock band for a while. Their slightly twisted lyrics overlay 90s-era guitars and will be in full force Thursday 11:00 p.m. at the Linen Building.
5. Built To Spill: The local rock heroes will be performing at 8:30 p.m. at the Mainstage on Friday, which is a change of venue from the last two years when they wowed the Shriners at El Korah. If you haven't already, check out the two tracks they've released in advance of their upcoming album (Untethered Moon will be out April 21).
6. bed.: This band has the attention of Oregonian music critic David Greenwald; he put them on his list of "10 Portland bands to watch at Treefort Fest." The also founded a new label, and band member Sierra Haager is sharing her music industry wisdom during a daytime panel. The group is playing Friday 10 p.m. at the El Korah Shrine.
7. Beat Connection: Seattle dance-rockers will be performing laaaaaate Friday night at the Reef (Saturday morning, technically, 12:30 a.m.). Their infectious lyrics and beats are a great way to end a Treefort evening.
8. Desert Noises: This Utah-based band is playing at 3:05 p.m. Saturday at the Main Stage, which will give you a great excuse to go hang out near Alefort in the sunshine (here's hoping!). Read up on the band's backstory, which includes connections to The Osmonds.
9. YACHT: Treefort veterans and all-around synth-pop gurus are making a return performance this year. Catch their set at 10 p.m., Saturday at the El Korah Shrine.
10. Black Milk: This Detroit hip-hop act has been turning heads lately. Catch his 11:30 p.m. show at the Knitting Factory Saturday; check out the song "I Guess" to help make your decision.
11. BADBADNOTGOOD: This Toronto-based trio has collaborated with some of rap's biggest names, including Ghostface Killah and Tyler, The Creator. They'll show off their experimental jazz hip-hop sound at the Mainstage, 7 p.m. Sunday.
12. Marshall Poole: This local group has a southern rock n' roll vibe and some thoroughly fun songs. Make them a priority on your Sunday, 10:30 p.m. at the Bouquet. Earplugs recommended.
13. Rubblebucket: Speed over to the El Korah Shrine to close our your Treefort experience with this raucous and joyful performance. When the band played a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music earlier this year they asked if they could bring a confetti cannon. So yeah, these guys know how to party. 11 p.m. Sunday El Korah Shrine Sunday.
