NPR Music announced the winners of their inaugural Tiny Desk Contest Feb. 12. Nearly 7,000 bands from across the country sent in their videos for the music gurus to judge, including some Idaho groups.
In the end, the winner was Fantastic Negrito, an Oakland act with a soulful performance filmed in a freight elevator.
The winner will get the chance to perform at a real Tiny Desk Concert at NPR's D.C. headquarters in March, continuing their national exposure among music fiends. NPR Music's Bob Boilen says deciding a winner for the contest was not easy:
"People put their hearts and souls, along with a desk of their choosing, into the nearly 7,000 submissions. Some did it to win, some did it for fun. What I loved most is that regardless of motivation, people got together to do something they may not have ever done, to create something unique and something they'll be able to share with friends and family forever. I think of all the desks dragged into nature, onto hilltops, into and around oceans, through offices and kitchens, classrooms and science labs. Friends gathered and made something memorable, and that's my favorite part of this, our very first Tiny Desk Concert Contest." -- NPR Music
Some of those entries included Idaho musicians. One particular entry caught our attention, although NPR didn't award them any of theirconsolation prizes.
Sheep Bridge Jumpers is a bluegrass band from Ketchum. They played an exuberant and cheeky performance, joking about their own "tiny desk" seen in the video. The group was featured in the Tiny Desk Contest blog, representing Idaho at about the 30 second mark.
Sheep Bridge Jumpers are set to play Boise's Treefort Music Fest in March.
