Boise is in the middle of a building boom and hotels are no exception. This week, Boise City Council approved a new development on Front Street between 5th and 6th Streets.
The seven-story, 138-room Home2 Suites by Hilton will be the fifth new hotel built in the last year.
According to Lynn Hightower, Executive Director of the Downtown Boise Association, the number of hotel rooms in the city has grown by 36 percent in the last year. Construction on the latest hotel begins this fall.
Carrie Westergard, Executive Director of the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the current boom makes up for years when the city had too few rooms to spare.
“We needed some more product,” she says. “It’s really allowed us to go after larger types of meetings. We can attract more sporting events.”
Westergard says the market isn’t yet saturated. New visitors continue to flock to Boise, and those that visit tend to come back, she says.
In addition to the hotel, a 600-spot parking garage will be built on the site east of the downtown core, according to the Idaho Press. Public parking spots will still be available.
