The Twin Falls County Fair kicked off at the fairgrounds in Filer Wednesday. As usual, the day started bright and early as 4-H students showed their animals.
Jeremy Case, 16, from Twin Falls led his horse out of the barn before the first trail competition on Thursday morning.
"My horse’s name is Petunia," he says. "She’s a Belgian Draft Quarter horse. We are the only draft showmen here at the fair. She’s quite difficult at times, but she’s a good girl."
Case has been showing horses all his life, and he says he’s most looking forward to the freestyle competition.
“We typically choose a theme for music. Mine will be The Nightmare Before Christmas. My horse is Zero. I made her a very elaborate costume and I’m Jack Skellington. So each kid has their own distinct theme and we compete to see who has the best costume and the best ride," Case says.
And because school has already started in Twin Falls, kids like Case might take a few days off — or the whole week — to prepare for dawn-to-dusk days at the fairgrounds.
The Twin Falls County fair runs through Labor Day in Filer. Some highlights include the The Magic Valley Stampede PRCA Rodeo on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and a concert featuring country music artist Chris Janson on Sunday night.
