Boise Mayor-Elect Lauren McLean Talks To Morning Edition Hours After Historic Victory

Courtesy Lauren McLean

Fresh from her victory in a runoff election which makes her Boise's first woman to be elected mayor, Lauren McLean visited with Morning Edition host George Prentice Wednesday morning.

With all 88 Boise precincts counted, McLean won 65.5% of the vote to incumbent Mayor Dave Bieter's 34.5 %. Bieter failed to win a single precinct.

“We knew that our supporters around the city were so excited to vote for a second time and that’s what we saw right away. We were cautiously optimistic.”

As host of Morning Edition, I'm the luckiest person I've ever known because I spend my days listening to smart, passionate, engaging people. It’s a public trust. I lean in to talk with actors, poets, writers and volunteers who make Idaho that much more special.
