Boise State has accepted an invitation to play in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas eve. The Broncos will take on Oregon State at Aloha Stadium. It's the 12th straight year the Broncos have gone to a bowl game. Boise State last played in the Hawaii Bowl in 2007, when the Broncos lost41-38 to East Carolina.
Boise State went 8-4 this season under coach Chris Petersen, who was hired last week as head coach of Washington. Assistant head coach Bob Gregory was named interim coach for the bowl game. Sunday, Gregory met with reporters for the first time since being named the interim on Friday. He said the change initiated by Petersen's departure has been "dramatic" at times. (Petersen is scheduled to be formally introduced at a press conference Monday in Seattle.)
Meanwhile, Buffalo and San Diego State have accepted invitations to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise later this month. It'll be Buffalo's second bowl trip in school history. The Bulls first played in a bowl game in 2009. San Diego State will be making its fourth bowl appearance in a row, but it'll be the first in Boise for the Aztecs. San Diego States is 7-5. Buffalo is 8-and-4. They'll meet at Bronco Stadium Dec. 21.
