Moving Target: The Shifting Gun Debate In America

Join Boise State Public Radio for a discussion about guns and gun policy, including issues specific to Idaho.

The gun debate in America has been changing quickly, with Democratic presidential candidates embracing new gun control proposals and even some Republicans offering support for certain measures, such as laws to temporarily remove firearms from gun owners in crisis situations (also known as red flag laws).

Many states have already passed gun restrictions in response to mass shootings, but in states like Idaho, legislators have been steadily repealing almost all restrictions on gun ownership and public carrying.

The talk will be moderated by Boise State Public Radio reporter Heath Druzin, who reports for the project Guns & America. Heath will be joined by Idaho Rep. Melissa Wintrow (D-Boise) and author and activist Clayton Cramer. Cramer teaches history at College of Western Idaho and has been an advocate for expanded gun rights while Wintrow has sponsored legislation that would introduce some firearms restrictions for those convicted of domestic abuse and certain sex crimes.
