Former Idaho GOP Chair Jonathan Parker is back in jail again and being held without bond after he turned himself in Wednesday night to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office on a contempt of court charge.

Former Idaho Republican Party Chairman Jonathan Parker was taken into custody again on a misdemeanor trespassing warrant during his court appearance on a felony stalking charge Friday morning.

The Idaho GOP kicks off its annual convention Thursday. Delegates from across the state have come to Pocatello to discuss the party platform and prepare for the November election. Friday evening, they’ll hear from Oliver North, incoming president of the National Rifle Association.

The head of the Idaho Republican Party is stepping down. 

Joshua Whitworth took over the role about a year ago when then Executive Director Jonathan Parker left to work at the law firm of Holland and Hart. Whitworth came to the Republican party as a former Idaho State University football player and a cattle rancher. He took on the role in July of 2012.

Wednesday the party announced Whitworth was leaving to take a job with the Idaho State Controller's Office.

A week after Idaho Democrats met for their annual convention in Boise, Republicans will start theirs’ today in Twin Falls.   The GOP will conduct three days of meetings that’ll result in the election of new leadership, the outlining of party rules, and the selection of delegates to the national convention in Tampa. 

It’s been a busy year for Idaho Republicans.  They held a presidential caucus in March.  In May, they held a closed primary.

Idaho’s recent primary elections will likely hit a historical low with 23 % of registered voters casting ballots.  The closed Republican primary confused some people and may have kept others from voting Tuesday.
