Downtown Boise’s arts district is getting its own art installation. An intersection near the homes of Opera Idaho and Ballet Idaho is set to get a makeover.
Not a lot was happening Wednesday morning at the intersection of 8th and Fulton Streets in downtown Boise. Crews had already closed down the intersection, blocking it to traffic, but, besides that, the roadway still looked – like a roadway. But that’s not going to be the case by Friday, August 17.
The mural being painted on the intersection is going to be a mix of blue and green representing Boise’s proximity to nature.
The City of Trees is the latest locale to get a mural painted directly on the street. They’ve popped up in a few other major cities around the country, most recently in New York.
The Statesman reports the project represents a partnership between the Ada County Highway District and the Boise Department of Arts and History. The public art project by artist Jason Keeble is expected to cost about $8,000.
The on-street art installation will be something of an experiment. It’s intended to coat the intersection of 8th and Fulton Streets for a year, but how the paint holds up through the winter and with cars regularly driving over it is anyone’s guess.
