Camp Rainbow Gold Board President Amanda Watson says it’s hard to give up on the proposed site in the Wood River Valley. The group has been focused on developing the site along East Fork Road outside of Sun Ketchum.
“It was beautiful and it was safe," says Watson, "and we had extensive studies done on the property to ensure that it was the ideal property for us.”
Watson says after more than a year of opposition to the project, the camp’s board of directors say it’s time to look for another location. In several public meetings, residents raised concerns about traffic and safety on the two-lane road, and county officials agreed.
“We’re looking at this as an opportunity to start fresh and really commit to our programs and focus on those and hopefully find a property that we have neighbors who want to embrace our program and want to help us out and welcome us with open arms.”
Watson says in the meantime, they’ll continue to lease Cathedral Pines Baptist Camp in the Wood River Valley and camps will go on as planned this summer.
