Boise Lets The Dogs Out On New Dog Island

Mayor Dave Bieter literally let the dogs out this Tuesday at the grand opening of Together Treasure Valley Dog Island in Ann Morrison Park.

The ceremony brought together dogs, dog owners and dog enthusiasts to enjoy the new dog oasis. This park, says Mayor Bieter, is a necessity in a city as pup-populated as Boise.

“Growing up here you understand how much Boiseans love their pets and their dogs in particular," says Bieter. "But once you start knocking on doors as a candidate, behind it seems like 90% of those doors is a dog.”

Many played fetch and made friends — both dogs and humans. Some were most excited to see the wide variety of dogs that filled the island.

“Oh my ... look at that Saint Bernard ... slobber slobber slobber, that’s the first thing I think of when I see a Saint Bernard," says one of the many dog watchers.

The 5.4 acre dog park is complete with water access for dogs to dip in after a game of fetch. The park is open to all friendly dogs, but has a corner for shyer pups. People are welcome too, as long as you are comfortable dodging tennis balls and frisbees.
