In between songs, Lucy told the crowd it had been a while since she performed without a band. "I used to sing solo all the time. It is different, mainly because everyone's eyes are only on me."

Lucy Dacus is an up-and-coming musician from Virginia. NPR Music's Bob Boilen called her his favorite new artist of 2016, tipping his hat to her lyrics and songwriting. Dacus has also received nods from SPIN, Rolling Stone and Noisey.

After her South by Southwest debut last week, Dacus and her band hit the road for Boise's #Treefort2016. Hours before her festival performance Wednesday at Mardi Gras, Lucy Dacus helped kick off Treefort with a stripped down solo "prefort" performance on behalf of Boise State Public Radio.

The lunchtime show was free and open to the public and took place upstairs at the Linen Building, where Storyfort hosts its mini-fort events and panels during the music festival.

Here is Lucy Dacus performing "Map On A Wall" from her album "No Burden."
