Drumroll, please...

More Idaho bands than ever before took part in NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest. Although the big winner is not from Idaho (check out New Orleans band Tank and the Bangas who stole the hearts of the NPR Music jury), Boise State Public Radio staff were impressed by the caliber of musicians from the Gem State.

We watched all 34 video submissions, and took a vote to choose our “Idaho Favorite.” It was tough! After two rounds of voting and a tie-breaker, Danny Heslop’s song “This Love May” came out on top. Frankie Barnhill called up the Idaho Falls musician, who has some advice for new artists just getting started.

Here are some other Gem State Tiny Desk entrants who caught our attention:

Best Instrumentation: Brandon Pritchett
Best Ensemble: Afrosonics
Best Beach Vibes (and SNL-caliber earworm): The Love Bunch
Best Actual Tiny Desk: Patrick Rice with Ross McIntire

Thanks to all the musicians who participated in this year’s Tiny Desk Contest! Can’t wait to see what you cook up next year.
