Revered NPR program From the Top highlights the nation’s best, up-and-coming classical musicians. From stunning performances to musical games, From the Top delivers a whole hour of youthful and energetic buzz. The show airs every Sunday at 1 p.m. on Boise State Public Radio Music.
After 20 years, From the Top announced the departure of host, Christopher O’Riley, in the middle of 2018. A year and a half later, the program has officially named new permanent host Peter Dugan.
“I’m truly honored and humbled now to step into the role of permanent host and, with the help of our brilliant co-hots and creatives, to continue From the Top’s tradition of empowering the next generation of great musicians by sharing their music and their stories while listeners across the country,” Dugan said.
A pianist himself, Dugan went on the show for the first time in 2007 and was later brought on as a guest host in 2018-2019. According to From the Top, Dugan’s responsibility as host will include everything from interviews to community engagement and career development.
“Peter’s consummate musical skill, genuine curiosity and natural rapport with From the Top’s young musicians make him a perfect fit to host From the Top," said Gretchen Nielsen, Executive Director of From the Top. "Along with Peter and our remarkable team of co-hosts and creatives, we look forward to ushering in this new chapter in From the Top’s history as we continue to showcase the stories and talents of today’s extraordinary young musicians."
Dugan will be accompanied by co-hosts Vijay Gupta, Tess Lark, Alex Laing, Orli Shahah and Charles Yang. Dugan’s first show will be in Calderwood Hall at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and will air the week of March 2, 2020.
