From the streets around the Broadway Bridge replacement project in Boise, you can just catch a glimpse of a construction vehicle or a crane. The Idaho Transportation Department has given us a different view, right over the top of the construction site.
The bridge was oringally built back in 1892. It was replaced in 1956. Fifty years later, ITD says the bridge is showing wear and tear and it's time to remove and replace it. The new bridge will have more traffic lanes, along with bike lanes and wider sidewalks.
Construction of the new bridge will take until fall of this year and cost $20 million.
ITD announced this week it will start pile driving at the site.
Broadway has closed down between Cesar Chavez Lane and Myrtle Street. From the detour routes, it's hard to get a good view of what's happening at the construction site.
ITD has posted a camera, that takes a photo every ten minutes of work on the bridge. But newly released video gives us a bird's eye view.
Watch this drone camera video showing half of the bridge already dismantled. The rest quickly follows. You can also see where the Boise River has been diverted away from the main bridge construction.
