Southern Idaho is feeling some of its hottest temperatures of the year, so far. And "so far" are the operative words, because meteorologists at the Boise office of the National Weather Service office say the extended outlook is pointing to triple-digit heat.
Among the many high-def tools used by the NWS Boise office are images from the GOES-17 satellite and enhanced dopler technology, which helped detect a tornado that recently touched down in Elmore County.
As for the possibility of 100 degree-plus heat, Boise traditionally averages five to six days of triple-digit temperatures each summer. In 2018, Boise registered 19 days of 100 degrees or hotter.
