An official at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise say there are no plans right now to send resources to Canada to help fight wildfires burning in Alberta.
Randy Eardley is with the Bureau of Land Management. He says the Canadian government has not made any requests through the National Interagency Coordination Center, also located in Boise. The U.S. and Canada have a longstanding agreement to send one another aid, which can come in the form of personnel, equipment and aircraft.
"We have not had any requests for resources or any other kind of assistance," Eardley says. "Until we do, there won't be anything in the works or anything sent."
More than 80,000 people have now been evacuated as a result of fires that have burned more than 330 square miles near Fort McMurray, Alberta.
