Can Libraries Fix News Deserts?

The city of Longmont, Colo., is doing a feasibility study on how to change the way its library is funded, in a way that might also help fund local coverage.

The news desert is growing. The Mountain West is home to two dozen counties without a single local newspaper. Now, one Colorado city is scoping out a new way to fund local coverage ... possibly through the public library.
