Idaho Emergency Rooms See Marked Increase In Child Abuse Injuries

The financial and emotional stress of COVID-19 is affecting Idaho families. Heartbreakingly, this has resulted in a measurable increase in child abuse cases with some serious enough to result in emergency care at hospitals.

This is a trend we are seeing across the country and it’s on all of us to be those extra eyes and ears for spotting child abuse since the traditional social structures — like school — are not in place that would typically identify this.

Joining Idaho Matters to talk more about this are Dr. Kendra Bowman and Dr. Matthew of St. Luke's Children's Hospital.

As COVID-19 cases spread through the U.S. and Idaho, we’re committed to keeping you updated and informed. You can get updated info on cases, closures and how to stay healthy at any time on our Coronavirus news blog.
