This ongoing class is designed for entry-level and experienced students alike, looking for more practice time on the pottery wheel. Experienced clay instructor, Casey Gurr, will offer guided, small-group instruction for anyone interested in learning the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel. More advanced students are welcome to use this time to practice what they already know and try new tricks! After creating about 1-3 pieces, we will dry and fire their pieces for them. This talk explores how U.S. census questions have changed from 1790 through 1950 and what those changes mean for genealogical research. Jamie Lee McManus Mayhew, PLCGS, will explain why certain questions appeared, disappeared, or shifted over time, and how those shifts reflect broader social and political priorities. Attendees will learn how to interpret their ancestors’ census entries within the context of each decade’s unique questions, gaining deeper insight into both the records and the people behind them.
