On The Friday, November 30, 2018 Edition Of Idaho Matters

  • Our team of regional reporters breaks down the week's headlines.
  • The Idaho Shakespeare Festival announces their 2019 program.
  • What if "Yes, Virginia, There Still is A Santa Claus" was written today?

- Host Gemma Gaudette leads a round table discussion of the week's headlines with the region's top journalists. This week Idaho Matters speaks with Betsy Russell from the Idaho Press and Idaho Public Television's Bill Manny and Seth Ogilvie.

- The 2019 Idaho Shakespeare Festival program has been announced and it includes Petruchio, an Agatha Christie classic, 76 trombones, the Ides of March and a lot of blue, suede shoes. Charlie Fee and Hannah Read Newbill stop in to give us a preview of this year's Idaho Shakespeare Festival.

- Idaho Matters presents this PRX vignette about one of the most famous Christmas letters in American history. "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"  - the statement from a big city newspaperman to a little girl has endured for more than a century as an affirmation of Christmas spirit, the power of belief and the seasonal thawing of cynicism. Producer Avishay Artsy wondered how today’s embattled editorial writers would answer that question. Admittedly, he’s a little more than eight years old, but several still took his call.
