Adree Edmo (l); 'Locked,' explores various facets of Edmo's case. The podcast produced by Boise State Public Radio and the Mountain West News Bureau begins in early summer.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments from attorneys representing both the State of Idaho and state inmate Adree Edmo on May 16. The State of Idaho is appealing an earlier lower federal court ruling ordering the state to provide sex reassignment surgery for the transgender inmate. Mountain West News Bureau reporter Amanda Peacher joins Idaho Matters to discuss the latest iteration in this precedent-setting case.

Later, we are also joined by Boise State Public Radio reporter Frankie Barnhill to discuss Locked, the collaborative podcast between BSPR and the Mountain West News Bureau. Locked -- coming this summer -- takes a deep dive into the nuances of this case, and what it could mean for how some transgender prisoners are treated.
