In this Dec. 14, 2023 meteors from the Geminid meteor shower streak across the sky.

Every year around this time shooting stars can be seen falling from the sky, including some really bright fireballs.

But they’re not stars; they’re meteors, and the Geminid meteor shower this year could produce as many as 120 meteors an hour at its peak on Saturday night.

Gary Boyle is known as the backyard astronomer, and he joined Idaho Matters to tell us about the lights and where they come from.
