Dr. Casey Means takes her seat at the start of a Senate Health, Education Labor and Pension Committee confirmation hearing for U.S. Surgeon General on Capitol Hill Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, in Washington.

President Donald Trump's nominee for U.S. Surgeon General, Casey Means, currently doesn’t have enough Senate support to secure confirmation after facing tough questioning from senators about her views on vaccines, her qualifications and her public health philosophy.

Dr. David Pate, the former CEO of St. Luke's Health System and the author of the book "Preparing for the Next Global Outbreak," joined Idaho Matters to talk more.
